With all of the incessant rain we’ve been having the past few weeks, it was no surprise that a sinkhole opened up in Westhollow Wednesday morning.

A man in a pickup truck got stuck in it just after midnight while he was driving on Channel Drive in the Walnut Hills area of Dallas.  The man said he felt a sudden drop as his truck ended up with one wheel in the hole and one in the air. He eventually managed to climb out of the truck with no serious injuries.

Dallas city workers are now at the scene and have closed off the residential street near Royal Lane and Webb Chapel Road. They estimate the hole is about 4 or 5 feet across and 6 to 8 feet deep.

Workers determined a ruptured 18-inch sewer mainline caused the collapse. Repairs work is not expected to be complete until Sunday.
